About the Artist

Agnolo Bronzino was a leading figure of the Italian Mannerist movement, celebrated for his refined portraits and sophisticated allegorical works. Born in Florence, he became the official court painter to Cosimo I de’ Medici, where he developed a highly polished style characterized by cool elegance, elongated forms, and meticulous detail.

Bronzino's portraits — particularly of the Medici family — are admired for their graceful poses, sumptuous textures, and psychological subtlety. He elevated court portraiture into an art of idealized beauty, capturing not only the likeness but the prestige and poise of his sitters.

Beyond portraiture, Bronzino produced complex religious and mythological scenes, rich with symbolism and intellectual depth. A poet as well as a painter, his art reflects the cultural sophistication of Renaissance Florence. Today, Bronzino’s legacy endures as a master of Mannerism — where beauty meets intellect in the service of power and elegance.
