About the Artist

Vincent van Gogh was one of the most emotionally powerful and influential artists in history. Born in the Netherlands in 1853, Van Gogh began painting seriously in his late twenties and, in just over a decade, produced more than 2,000 works, including 800+ oil paintings and countless sketches and drawings. His early work was dark and somber, but after moving to Paris and later to the south of France, his style evolved into the vibrant, expressive brushwork and bold color that would define Post-Impressionism.

Van Gogh’s life was marked by struggle — emotionally, financially, and socially. He suffered from severe mental health issues and was largely unrecognized during his lifetime. Despite his isolation, he maintained a deep, poetic sensitivity to the world around him. In his letters — especially to his brother Theo — Van Gogh revealed a mind full of insight, compassion, and a relentless drive to find meaning through art.

Today, his works such as The Starry Night, Sunflowers, Wheatfield with Crows, and Café Terrace at Night are globally recognized as masterpieces. More than just visual spectacles, they are windows into Van Gogh’s soul — filled with longing, beauty, turbulence, and hope.

Though he died young at 37, Van Gogh’s legacy lives on as a symbol of artistic passion, vulnerability, and the enduring power of creativity.
