Sir Peter Paul Rubens was a Flemish Baroque master whose exuberant canvases and diplomatic career made him one of the most influential artists of his era. Trained in Italy, he absorbed Venetian colorito and Michelangelo’s monumentality, then returned to Antwerp to lead a prolific workshop.
Rubens’s paintings—ranging from dramatic altarpieces and history paintings to lush mythological scenes—are celebrated for their dynamic compositions, fleshy nudes, and radiant palette. Beyond painting, he served as a diplomat for the Spanish crown, merging art, politics, and culture in a career that still defines Baroque splendor.
