Franz Marc was a German painter and printmaker, best known as a founding member of Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider), a revolutionary group of Expressionist artists. Marc believed that art should express spiritual truth, and he turned to nature—especially animals—as symbols of purity, harmony, and innocence.
His vivid use of color, abstract forms, and emotional intensity defined a new approach to modern art. Marc’s iconic paintings of blue horses, red deer, and yellow cows reflect his deep connection to nature and his search for meaning beyond the visible world. Though his life was tragically cut short during World War I, his visionary work remains a cornerstone of German Expressionism.
