Anders Zorn was born in Mora, Sweden, and trained at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts before traveling to Paris and Spain to study Old Masters and contemporary techniques. He mastered the alla prima watercolor and oil techniques, renowned for capturing the fleeting effects of light on skin and water.
Zorn’s versatile oeuvre includes portraits of heads of state, genre scenes of Swedish folk life, and nudes set against sunlit landscapes. His international reputation grew after winning gold medals at the Paris Salon and World’s Fairs in Chicago and Paris.
Beyond painting, Zorn was an accomplished sculptor and printmaker, producing etchings celebrated for their fluid lines and tonal richness. He endowed the Zorn Museum in Mora, ensuring future generations could study his contributions to late‑19th‑century realism and Impressionism.
