Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824–1904) was a French painter and sculptor, renowned for his meticulously detailed style and vivid historical, mythological, and Orientalist scenes. A leading figure of Academic art in the 19th century, he trained under Paul Delaroche and rose to prominence at the École des Beaux-Arts, where he later became a highly influential teacher.

Gérôme’s paintings often depicted antiquity, biblical narratives, and exotic subjects, rendered with striking realism and theatrical composition.
