Leandro Bassano was an Italian painter of the late Renaissance, son and pupil of Jacopo Bassano. Born in Bassano del Grappa, he later moved to Venice, where his refined style incorporated Venetian color and compositional elegance.
Specializing in religious altarpieces and pastoral scenes, Leandro balanced dynamic groupings with warm light and rich fabrics. His workshop produced numerous variations on popular subjects, serving both local churches and private collectors.
As a court painter to the Doge and the Venetian patriciate, Bassano helped sustain the family’s artistic dynasty. His works bridge the rustic charm of his father’s influence with the sophisticated colorism of late Venetian painting.
