Alson Skinner Clark was an American Impressionist and muralist known for his luminous plein-air landscapes and large-scale public works. Born in Chicago, he studied at the Art Institute of Chicago before traveling to Paris, where he attended the Académie Julian and worked under Jean-Paul Laurens.
Upon returning to the United States, Clark settled in Pasadena, California, where he became a founding member of the California Art Club. His landscapes capture the bright light, rolling hills, and coastal vistas of the American West with delicate brushwork and a soft palette.
In addition to easel paintings, Clark received major mural commissions, including works for the Panama–California Exposition and public buildings in Los Angeles. His dual legacy as both impressionist landscapist and civic artist underscores his versatility and commitment to bringing art into everyday life.
